The new programme, the first Diploma in Creative Digital Media in Zambia, was launched on Thursday 30th Janurary in Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Commerce.
Following the Welcome Address by the Principal, Mr Pascal Chewe, the new programme was formally launched by Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Vocational Training and Early Education, Dr Patrick K Nkanza. Dr Nkanza welcomed the start of the new programme which has been developed through a partnership between Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Commerce and Ballyfermot College of Further Education.
Speaking at the launch Mr Finbar O’Brien, Ambassador of Ireland, said :
I wish to commend the Ministry of Education Science and Vocatational Training and Early Education for acting pro-actively through Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Commerce by initiating this Diploma programme to ensure that a cadre of Zambians are equipped wiht the requisite knowledge and skills to effectively perform digital media functions as the coutry plans it migration to digital transmission.
I also want to reiterate the commitment of the Irish Government to education and skills development in Zambia and to this partnership between Ballyfermot College of Further Education of Ireland and Evelyn Hone Colleg of Applied Arts and Commerce.
Creative Digital Media Zambia Project Co-ordinator, Helen Mahony, thanked the Ministry of Education, Science and Vocational Training and Early Education for their strong support for the new programme which has included funding for a state of the art computer lab with 24 individual work stations. She also thanked TEVETA and the teachers in BCFE and EHC for their huge contribution to the project.
Students will be studying animation, web design, graphic design, sound and video editing in a computer lab which probably has some of the best computers in Lusaka. They are going into a dynamic learning environment which will foster creativity, innovation, collaboration, enterprise and high level technical skills. This programme opens up great opportunities, both for school leavers and for mature student – the chance to become part of an exciting and vibrant industry and to become a maker of the images and messages.
