Exhibition of Work by BCFE Graphics, Digital Media and Illustration Students – Communicating Complex Ideas about Development – was formally opened on Monday 10th December 2012, by Minister of State with responsibility for overseas development, Joe Costello at an IDEA (Irish Development Education Association) Event in the Camden Court Hotel. The Minister, representatives of Irish Aid and members of many development organisations highly praised the work of the students.
The exhibition included posters on themes including Water, Landmines and Education, and images which were developed for Comhlamh for use in communicating complex ideas about development issues.
The exhibition was the result of the development education work which Alan Costello has been doing. It was really a brilliant achievement and a perfect example of the integration of development education into the curriculum in a way that is relevant, challenging and worthwhile for the students. Students at the exhibition spoke enthusiastically of what they had learned not only about development issues but also as graphic designers. All had engaged in significant research. All enjoyed the various projects and been challenged by them.
Alan’s work has put BCFE on the map as the leading graphic design college in terms of development issues. His work is an example of how students can be inspired to engage critically and enthusiastically with complex development issues. Well done to Alan and all the students.
