Evelyn Hone College was established in 1963 under British South African Company (BSAC) a year before Zambia gained her independence from Britain. In 1972, it was reconstituted under the commission of Technical Education and Vocational Training. In the year 2000, the college was placed under the management Board by the Act of Parliament, TEVET Act number 13, of 1998 and is one of the public colleges under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Vocational Training (MSTVT).
The College is registered with Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Authority (TEVETA) as a TEVET training Institution.
The college has over 5,000 students in seven academic departments namely: Media Studies ,Business Studies, Education Department, Health Science, Academic and Applied Science, Communication and Library Studies; and Secretarial and Office Management
EHC is the third largest learning institution in Zambia. It is the only college in Zambia which offers programmes in Art and in Music.
